SITE-BASED STAFF DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS

Adult learning is at the heart of school improvement. Every school has exceptional teachers who are willing to share as they learn with their colleagues. We believe there is no higher form of professionalism than for teachers to take responsibility for improving teaching and learning in each others' classrooms.

We support the training of site-based staff developers and academic coaches who are full- or part-time teachers. We help staff developers clarify their role, coach adults one-on-one and in groups, and build systems of support and collaboration. We also help staff developers build professional development plans for departments, grade levels and individual teachers.

We also design and help implement tools for educators to learn from each other and to engage in meaningful dialogue about instruction. One of the tools we use is a protocol for looking at student work. This protocol helps teachers collaborate on lesson planning and delivery to improve curriculum in real time.
